I bought this for my daughter's 1st birthday. It does take some time to put together, but overall assembly wasn't too bad. It took 2 of us 1.5 hours. We used a cordless drill. Definitely use a drill with a gentle touch. The pre drilled holes are more like guide holes than anything and you will save yourself time and hand cramps with a drill. It is particle board so make sure you screw your screws in straight so as not to chip it. The paint seems a bit thin and easily marked/scratched, but everything was evenly painted. I think I will clear coat it. This kitchen was chosen out of all of the options out there because the fridge and oven are separate pieces so they can be arranged easily in smaller spaces and it's reasonably priced while not beong an eyesore, and I am happy with this feature and the size of both the fridge and oven. They are small enough they fit easily in my daughter's play area, but large enough she'll get years of use out of it. I do feel like KidKraft put more detail and effort into their larger kitchens though, which considering this costs just as much as those is a bit disappointing. If you have the space, I'd get one of the bigger ones. All of our pieces fit together and had no off smell. I recommend starting the screws and then tightening them once they are all in place rather than screwing them in completely one at a time. I will be customizing with an extra shelf and some lights and paint. There is only one shelf each in the fridge and oven, so though they are roomy inside, you can't actually store that much. Play food isn't that tall KidKraft. Also wish they had gone the little extra step of painting the oven rack to look like a rack rather than just painting it white. I will be doing this myself. The sink and oven is heavy and solid enough I have no worries about it tipping. I think I'm going to add weight to the bottom of the fridge though, because it is so tall and marrow in shape and a bit lighter in weight. They do include wall anchors, so this is only a potential issue if you can't screw into your walls. It is very adorable and the overall quality is good, especially at this price point. It is sturdy once put together. There are a few things they could do better, but I would recommend this play kitchen if you have limited space.LoveI can remember loving my toy kitchen when I was a child. As soon as I had my daughter, I knew I would get her a play kitchen when she was two. I didn't want a kitchen that was covered with cartoon characters, and I wanted one that didn't look awful in my living room. The Kidkraft Retro Kitchen looked pretty perfect - a soft color, no advertisements, lots of activities and parts for play, not made of plastic. The kitchen was shipped in less than a week and came in one box. All parts were in perfect condition and we weren't missing any parts. My husband put the kitchen together, I organized the parts and held pieces in place when necessary. Could be put together by one person, easier with a second set of hands once in a while. It took us a little over an hour to assemble. Found the instructions pretty decent until the refrigerator - those instructions don't give enough detail as to which direction to place some parts and we accidentally installed one piece upside down. Luckily, it was easy to unscrew and flip over.I love that the fridge is a separate piece - it makes it easier to have it fit properly in your home, and also makes it easier to move this around. As that it's not plastic, it's pretty heavy and if it was one connected piece there would be no way I could carry it on my own.The majority of this kitchen is made from wood. Very smooth, even paint job over all of it. The sink is a separate piece - a plastic box that snaps into the kitchen body. This is nice because you can remove it and wipe/wash if it gets yucky (my daughter dumped her bowl of pasta in it to "wash" the bowl). The knobs on the sink spin, the stove knobs also turn and make a clicking sound. All the doors have a closure to keep them from falling open, but are easy to open and close by my two-year old. This kitchen has been a major hit - it will keep my daughter entertained for HOURS - no more begging to watch TV because she's bored with her toys! She imitates us and "washes" her hands, pretends to make food and drink and serves all her toys (and us!). We have toy cookware from a couple different brands, and they all work well with this set.The shelf below the oven is exactly the size of one of Amazon's smaller shipping boxes - we cut the tops off the box and use it like a drawer to store her play food and cookware. Thinking of covering it in aluminum foil to have it better match the kitchen, but it's perfect because she can slide it in and out, pull it out and put it on her play table, and we can pull it out, throw all the pieces in there and store them out of sight. This weekend we had my daughter's birthday and the kitchen was enjoyed by many kids ranging from two to five years. They all loved the kitchen, and the kitchen survived several rambunctious older boys. I have no complaints with this kitchen - it is all I wanted for my daughter and more!Just put this together today right after it arrived. Very pleased with our purchase. It was packaged really well so none of the pieces were damaged. The only thing I noticed was that a section right on the edge of the fridge missed getting painted with pink paint but that's minor. There are quite a few pieces which may seem overwhelming but once you lay them out and start it comes together nicely. The instructions are very detailed as well as the screws etc. I took the advice of another customer and left the screws a bit loose until the parts were together for each section. Had no problem with anything not fitting together right. It is a very well manufactured set and I'm really impressed and pleased with it. It's unique and such a nice change from a unit produced with plastic. Highly recommend.Came right on time for Christmas. Looked like an insane amount of pieces but it’s taken me three hours to put together the stove part. Not bad considering I’ve never put together ANYTHING ever. Not even from Ikea.It does have a smell but it just smells like wood. The paint jobs great. No scratches. When I was placing the two back pieces into the stove I realize that it does not slide into the slots because the whole structure is out of alignment. Although now that I watch the help video he says to put the whole thing together before screwing everything completely. If I had to give advice it would be to listen to the guy in the video. I am almost certain that if I had waited to screw everything in completely it wouldn’t have been messed up. I sanded down the acute problem area but the structure is still out of alignment. Holes don’t match up with other holes and the screws wouldn’t go in because of that. I managed though somehow. I really like it. It’s such a good set way better than the ikea ones. I would totally buy more from this company.I didn't assemble it but was told it took longer than expected, haha. Set is adorable and my little one thinks it is great! Product is exactly as shown the only reason I did not rate it a five is because of the chemical scent. It did get better after wiping down with soap, water, and with wipes. My advise is to air out before assembling and to clean with soap and water.Really cute little kitchen. My three year old daughter loved it! It was fairly easy to put together - I did it myself (which, given the fact I suck at those, means something lol). It's a cute, Barbie Pink color.Overall, awesome purchase and I definitely recommend!!
